Discardia Mending Day

Mending Day is the second Saturday of each month, noon till 4PM. Join our sewing circle as we teach, learn, help others, mend and create art.
Please be kind and pre-launder your projects.

Bring your sewing, interest in sewing, interest to learn, and willingness to teach, or just bring pre-washed fabric items in need of mending or alteration! We fix and alter garments and other fabric items for free, as a service to the greater community, for fun! Let’s keep things useful and out of landfill together!

Calling all Artists, Fashion Designers, Creatives, and Community Members of All Ages Interested in Sustainable Practices.

Discardia, a program of the Center for Sustainable Living, creates an environment for local designers to brainstorm to make upcycled clothing and to teach people in the community how to upcycle their own items.

Get involved with Discardia as a Mending Day Sewing Advisor: https://www.bloomingtonvolunteernetwork.org/need/detail/?need_id=355829

Discardia members and volunteer Sewing Advisors assist attendees in mending clothing, giving them an opportunity to learn how to sew or work on any other project involving clothing. Sewing machines and basic supplies are provided to participants, for free, and all ages are welcome!

Volunteer Sewing Advisors offer help to participants with altering or repairing the garments that they have brought in. Use your skills to assist participants with creative solutions, but not to make all the decisions for them.

Help is also appreciated in setting up and tearing down before and after the event (30 minutes each).

This is a great way to empower as well as collaborate with a group of creative problem solvers and learn to use the various tools and tricks of the trade to make it easier to make adjustments to our own clothes so that they fit well and are comfortable and we feel good wearing them.

All skill levels are welcome and training is provided. It's a lot of fun and makes you feel empowered and confident. Contact Stephen Hale, Discardia Project Manager if interested at 812-334-0922.
