Hoosier Hills Food Bank (HHFB) is a nonprofit organization committed to alleviating hunger in south-central Indiana by collecting, storing, and distributing food to nonprofit agencies. Founded in 1982, HHFB provides food to food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, youth programs, and senior meal sites. The organization serves over 100 partner agencies across Monroe, Brown, Lawrence, Orange, Owen, and Martin counties, reaching more than 52,000 individuals every month.
The food bank sources its supplies through donations from grocery stores, food manufacturers, local farms, and community food drives. Additionally, its Meal Share Food Rescue Program helps recover prepared but unsold meals from restaurants, caterers, and institutions to reduce food waste while feeding those in need. The Garden and Gleaning Program further enhances fresh food availability by harvesting surplus produce from farms and home gardens, ensuring nutritious options for those facing food insecurity.
HHFB also operates a Mobile Pantry Program, bringing food directly to underserved rural and urban areas. This initiative helps bridge the accessibility gap for those who may not be able to reach traditional food pantries. Other programs, such as Plant-a-Row, encourage local gardeners to contribute excess produce, and community-wide food drives, including their annual “Stamp Out Hunger” event, mobilize resources to stock HHFBβs shelves.
