About Brightside Cafe

Brightside Cafe is a 100% gluten-free restaurant and bakery on the lower level of Fountain Square Mall, at 101 West Kirkwood Avenue. Owners Abe Carney and John Moore began talking about a locally dedicated gluten-free restaurant while coaching their kids' baseball team. Elissa McKee and Thomas Moore, who founded 1823 Bakehouse in Franklin, are partners.

WFIU reported a soft opening on February 2, 2024, and called it the only bakery in the city with a 100 percent gluten-free kitchen. Breakfast items include biscuits and gravy, breakfast sandwiches and quiches, along with coffee and other drinks. IU NewsNet described pastries, breads and other usually gluten-containing items made gluten-free.

In late 2024 it received the National Celiac Association's Gluten-Free Food Program Approved Mark of Trust, according to IU NewsNet.
