Before they knew each other, Jane Kupersmith and Jeff Grant both wanted to elevate the coffee scene in Bloomington. Jane started roasting coffee the way many roasters do—in her spare time and on her front porch. Small bags of beans marked “Hopscotch” began to make their way to the front porches of friends and family. Jeff had recently left barista life to help start a family business. He knew that he wanted to return to coffee and that to do so would require striking out on his own terms. But it wasn’t the process of elimination that led the two to pair up; it was realizing that in combining their roasting and front-of-house experience, they could bring the highest quality products and service to Bloomington.
Since opening their one-stop, flagship store alongside the B-Line Trail in 2014, Hopscotch has grown to employ a staff of over 40 people; operates a separate roasting facility and a to-go location; and provides coffee to other forward-thinking cafes in town.
