About Mother Bear’s Pizza
Mother Bear's Pizza started in March 1973, founded by Ray McConn and Bruce Storm. The family-owned restaurant's Campus shop is at 1428 E 3rd St. The family also runs a west-side Bloomington shop, which opened Dec. 1, 2016 in a former Smokey Bones, and a shop in Columbus, Indiana.
Visit Bloomington describes hearty, deep-dish-style pies in a wood-paneled interior. Bloom Magazine called the pizza Midwestern with a thick crust. A 2023 WISH-TV segment featured the Treasure of Monte Cristo, with parmesan garlic white sauce, bacon, spinach and fontina.
The business lists several honors: the Indiana Daily Student's Best Pizza in Bloomington in 1979, a 1982 People Magazine pick as one of America's top nine pizzas, ten straight years of IU votes for best pizza, and two Final Four finishes at the International Pizza Expo.
Delivery covers a limited area, and the site promotes a Ten Inch Tuesday special. Call the Campus shop at (812) 332-4495 for current hours.
