The newspaper was purchased July 1, 1960 by John T. and Meme Gillaspy and remains under the ownership of the Gillaspy family. Since 1960, The Spencer Evening World, Inc. has acquired several weekly publications, which serve nearby communities. Those publications are: The Ellettsville Journal, Clay City News and the Hoosier Topics and are all printed in Spencer.Today we serve customers with a variety of printing needs ranging from design to distribution. Short Description The original Fishin’ Shedd building as shown was built in 1967, doors opened April 1st 1968. In the early years of operation basic inventory consisted of bait, tackle, groceries and gas. As years progressed boat and motor rentals, sales and service were added and continued until fall of 1992, at that time a complete and new gasoline facility was added due to very heavy demand for increased service and supply. At this time the boat rental facility was turned over to my son and was moved to Paynetown State Recreation Area. Currently all the family is involved with some aspect of the business including Outback Marine.
