Seasonal dinner restaurant in the former Elm Heights Bloomingfoods, with Sunday brunch, a morning coffeehouse and a cocktail bar.

About The Elm Restaurant

The Elm is a restaurant and coffeehouse at 614 E. 2nd St. in the Elm Heights neighborhood, owned by longtime Bloomington residents Martha and David Moore. It opened in late March 2022 in a former Bloomingfoods Market & Deli, and the name honors the neighborhood.

The building's corner has long held a community grocery, first K&S Country Market and then Bloomingfoods. A lone American elm shades the patio. Inside, the 5,000-square-foot room in the Elm Heights historic district has a curved, tiled bar, and a two-story mural by artist Lauren Bordes anchors the room.

Dinner is served Wednesday through Saturday on a seasonal menu, with reservations through Resy or by phone. The dinner menu starts with small plates, and the bar offers a seasonal cocktail list. Sunday brunch and a counter-service coffeehouse are also on the schedule (hours may change). The Indiana Daily Student calls it a restaurant serving elevated American fare, and Visit Bloomington says USA Today selected it among the Best Restaurants in the U.S. in 2024. Parking is available in lots beside the building.
