Kirkwood Avenue institution since 1980 serving breakfast all day, big pancakes, sandwiches and burgers, with online ordering.
About Village Deli
Village Deli at 409 E. Kirkwood Ave. has been a Bloomington breakfast institution since David Lockwood and Michael Paxton opened it in 1980. Bob Costello bought it in 1999 and, as of a 2012 Bloom Magazine profile, had grown it from 85 seats to 221. Costello also owns Soma Coffeehouse and Juice Bar.
Breakfast is served all day, with very large pancakes, farm-fresh egg dishes, breakfast burritos and homemade granola. Cinnamon roll pancakes and a gluten-free pancake are on the menu. Longtime favorites from the original owners include Paxton's Potatoes, and the pancakes, granola and coffee cake are made in-house from original recipes.
For lunch or dinner there are sandwiches, salads, burgers and homemade soups. You can order online.
