This focus on the Birth-to-Five population is supported by decades of research that underscore the linkages between early childhood development and success in school and life. There are several benefits of investing in the formative years of life.The Birth-to-Five Coalition initiative, supported by the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County, United Way of Monroe County, and the Smithville Charitable Foundation, is a county-wide effort that focuses on current and prospective services to parents and young children in the Bloomington, Ellettsville, New Unionville, Smithville, and Stinesville areas.
Hoosiers for a Commonsense Health Plan was formed in the Fall of 2005. Our goal is to develop and promote a bill in the Indiana State Legislature that will be introduced in January of 2007. These services and programs will emphasize 1) fostering a community of people of all ethnicities who support American Indian individuals, communities, and nations, 2) educating the non-American Indian mainstream about American Indian cultures, and 3) advocating for American Indians with other agencies. Believing that an inclusive community space is paramount to our mission, the NACC will strive to obtain a building with a home-like atmosphere which will be open to all people, but which will primarily serve American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians. In fulfilling its mission, the NACC will be inclusive of all American Indians, including people of mixed ancestry and two-spirits. We seek to provide a place where people wishing to reconnect with their ancestry can learn about pursuing this goal in a respectful and safe way rather than be taken in by plastic shamans or other hucksters.

Fiddle ‘n’ Feet is Jamie Gans on fiddle and Tamara Loewenthal on feet. We are committed to presenting the very best in percussive dance and traditional music from North America and the Celtic countries. We dance, we sing, we play fiddle, mandolin, banjo, guitar, jaw harps and more! Our songs and music range from Old Time Appalachian to Irish to French Canadian. In performance, we showcase a variety of step dance styles, from American clogging to English wooden shoe clogging to French Canadian reels and waltzes. We also teach percussive and traditional styles of dance, including calling and playing for square and contra dances. Rhythm is an important component of our work, whether drumming with feet or with our hands against our bodies. We engage our audiences and our students in the joy of movement and sound.
