Gail Fairfield Inks is the working name of Bloomington artist Gail Fairfield, who creates fluid, vibrant paintings using alcohol ink on yupo paper. Her style ranges from representational to swirly, abstract compositions, and her work has been shown widely across the local and regional arts scene.
Gail discovered alcohol ink in 2019 and has been painting with it ever since, drawn to its fluidity, vibrancy, and unpredictability. Her painting “Insight” won Best of Show at the Bloomington Watercolor Society’s group exhibit, and she’s held a solo show at The Vault Gallery in downtown Bloomington. She’s a member of the Bloomington Watercolor Society, Watercolor Society of Indiana, Friends of T.C. Steele, and Persisterhood.
Before her art career, Gail worked in staff development at Indiana University. She’s also an established author, having written several astrology and Tarot books, including Everyday Tarot, Choice Centered Astrology, and Choice Centered Relating and the Tarot. Her illustrated children’s book, The MOSTLY True Stories of Roly Poly’s Great Lake Adventures, features alcohol ink paintings of her real-life dog and is available in English and Spanish.
Gail teaches alcohol ink workshops around the Bloomington area, sometimes paired with astrology and tarot themes. She’s also available for children’s events as “Granny Blue Jeans,” bringing Roly Poly along to read stories and meet young fans.
