Laps in a perfect race

B-Town 500 Trivia in play: four team bikes on a 3D Little 500 track, a scoreboard showing laps out of 200, and a question about IU’s school colors.

How it works

Answer right. Ride faster.

  1. Line up. Name your teams, add riders if you like, and pick a level.
  2. Race. Take turns answering. Every right answer moves your bike around the track.
  3. Take the checkered flag. Most laps wins. A perfect race is all 200.

Watch for the hidden extras: a secret Townie Bonus worth double, a breakaway after three in a row, and a courthouse fish that knows things.

Pick your level

Friendly, fiendish or somewhere in between

Classic

For a mixed crowd. Downtown, campus, food, music and the outdoors.

Sample: What are IU’s official school colors?

Hard

For longtime locals and IU diehards. Expect deep cuts.

Sample: Who hit the game-winning shot in the 1987 national championship game?

Ramp up

Starts with Classic questions and turns Hard at the halfway round. Good when one person always knows too much.

What sits on top of the Monroe County Courthouse dome?

Show the answer

A copper fish weathervane. It has topped Monroe County’s courthouses since the 1820s, and it’s about five and a half feet long. There are 80 more questions where that came from.

Built like the real race

Quals, exchanges and a white flag

  • Quals set the starting grid, and the pole team wears green.
  • Exchanges. List your riders and they trade the bike every turn.
  • Flags. A white flag for the last round and a checkered flag at the finish.
  • Yellow jersey. Win, and you defend the title in the rematch.
