About Janko’s Little Zagreb Inc
Janko's Little Zagreb is a steakhouse at 223 W. 6th Street in downtown Bloomington, open since 1973. It started as the Choo-Choo Cafe serving Yugoslavian and Eastern European food and later shifted its focus to steaks. Indiana Connection credits John "Janko" Pouch as the founder and names Mark Conlin as the current owner and president. The name is pronounced yawn-koes.
The menu centers on USDA Choice steaks that are hand cut daily and the restaurant's spicy meatballs, with seafood entrees and vegetarian options as well. The wine list has over 100 bottles and more than a dozen house wines by the glass.
The restaurant describes a casual, family friendly setting that suits both big groups and small celebrations. Indiana Connection describes the red-and-white striped awning on West 6th Street and says guests have included music celebrities John Mellencamp and Billy Joel.
It serves dinner only, Tuesday through Saturday, and is closed Sunday and Monday. Posted hours are 5:00 to 8:30 pm Tuesday to Thursday and 4:30 to 9:00 pm Friday and Saturday, though they may change. Reservations are taken every evening online or by phone, and walk-ins are seated as space allows.
