About Osteria Rago

Osteria Rago is a casual Italian restaurant in a converted 1880s carriage house, tucked down an alley. It sits between Kirkwood and 6th Street, just west of the IU Sample Gate.

Gregg Rago, who co-owns Nick's English Hut with his wife, opened it in the former Bloomingfoods Kirkwood building. The restaurant's own site says it was established in 2018.

Bloom Magazine reported that family visits to Calabria inspired the restaurant. It also explained that osteria means a less formal place to eat than a ristorante.

The kitchen makes pasta fresh daily with locally sourced, organic ingredients. The menu also has wood-fired pizza with a pizza of the month. It lists meatballs made with Fischer Farms beef and pork.

The restaurant says its fresh pasta, ravioli and sauces are sold at Bloomingfoods West and East. It says it was voted Bloomington's Favorite Italian restaurant. Reservations are recommended for dining in, and takeout and catering are available. The site lists Tuesday through Saturday with Sunday and Monday closed, though hours may change.
