An East 3rd Street nonprofit with a Postpartum House, postpartum doula care, childbirth classes and free drop-in hours, working to open a midwife-run birth center.

About Tandem Community Birth Center and Postpartum House

Tandem is a nonprofit perinatal hub at 2613 E 3rd Street that supports families through pregnancy, birth and the first months with a new baby. The upstairs Postpartum House has a community space, free resources and overnight rooms for new families. The lower floor houses a midwifery clinic and the birth center Tandem is working to open, which it describes as the region’s first midwife-run birth center.

Services include stays at the Postpartum House (now booking, with Dad’s Nights for dads and their babies), daytime and overnight postpartum doula care at home, childbirth education classes and parent support groups. Free drop-in open hours offer tea, playgroup space, free supplies and diapers, and help finding resources. Tandem says it provides care regardless of ability to pay, and doula care is offered on a sliding scale that starts at $0 an hour.

Drop-in open hours are Monday 11 am to 2 pm, Tuesday 9 am to 1 pm, Wednesday 10 am to 3 pm, Thursday noon to 4 pm, Friday 11 am to 1 pm and Saturday 1 to 3 pm. Hours can change for holidays and events, so check Tandem’s calendar before you go.

Bloomington Transit Route 3 East stops at 3rd and Clark, a short walk away, and Tandem keeps bus passes on hand for clients getting home. The front door faces 3rd Street. During construction, use the back entrance by the wooden ramp off the rear parking lot.
