About The Butcher’s Block

The Butcher's Block is a locally owned custom butcher shop, specialty seafood market and smokehouse on Bloomington's east side, serving the area since 2004.

The butchers have ground their own sausage and smoked their own salmon, ribs and deli meats, according to a 2012 Bloom Magazine profile of founder David Schell, who first sketched the shop as a business plan for an IU class. Fresh seafood comes in daily, with the biggest selection on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons, and the shop also imports specialty cheeses, charcuterie meats and pantry goods.

Besides the counter, Visit Bloomington describes it as a butcher's shop, catering and deli serving sandwiches daily, and it takes catering and restaurant wholesale inquiries.

The shop's website lists hours of 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, with Sunday closed; hours may change, so check before you go.
