About Hinkle’s Hamburgers

Hinkle's Hamburgers first opened in Bloomington in 1930. It closed in February 2019, and family friend Richie Shields bought it from longtime owners Gary and Deborah Clark. Richie and Janna Shields then reopened it to carry on its legacy.

The menu is short: the Hinkle burger, with or without cheese, and a double. Visit Bloomington calls it a no-frills burger joint. The Indiana Daily Student featured it again in its spring 2026 housing guide.
