About The American Legion Post 18
American Legion Burton Woolery Post 18 is the Bloomington veterans' post at 1800 West 3rd Street. It is named for Sergeant Burton Woolery, the first Monroe County casualty of World War I. Indiana Public Media reported in 2023 that it was founded in 1919 and is the largest American Legion post in the state.
The Post has a restaurant and bar with lunch items and monthly dinner specials. Lunch is open to everyone from 11 am to 2 pm, Tuesday through Friday, while dinner is for members and their guests. Sandwiches on the menu include the Post 18 burger, tavern-battered cod and pork tenderloin.
Bingo is played most Sundays in the spacious dining area, which seats 160. The site also covers the Sons of the American Legion, the Auxiliary and the Legion Riders. Call 812-334-0500 to ask about carryout orders.
